It wasn’t until 2010 when Dr. Poindexter traveled to Africa to work with orphans where she encountered herbal medicine. At the orphanage, the “mothers” (AKA caregivers) would use native plant medicine to treat injuries or illnesses. Seeing the effects first hand, Dr. Poindexter returned home and enrolled at Portland State University to acquire her premedicine courses and then attended the National College on Natural Medicine (Currently known at NUNM) where she received her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine. She focused her education of women’s health, pediatrics, autoimmune/GI conditions and endocrine imbalances.
Dr. Poindexter strongly believes in the Tenets of Naturopathic Medicine. She believes that the body is an amazing organism with capabilities of healing. She focuses much of her practice on nutrition and leading the body to optimal health. Dr. Poindexter individualized each treatment plan to improve patient’s health because not every body is the same and therefore not every body can heal the same way. She enjoys using herbal and supplemental therapies, homeopathy and physical medicine to improve health.
In her free time Dr. Poindexter enjoys spending time with her family and dogs. She enjoys traveling and exploring new cultures and customs.
